The 49ers

It is now week going into week ten! The football season has officially hit double digits. This week is all about the underdog. When thinking of an underdog in the NFL only one comes to mind. For the last two years they have increasingly been a threat to greater teams in the league. The San Francisco, 49ers is that team. This year there is no doubt in my mind that they won’t make it to at least the second week of the playoffs. Week nine the 49ers played the Washington, Redskins at FedEx Field in Maryland.
Unfortunately this game doesn’t highlight the 49ers greatness to the fullest extent. What it does show is San Francisco’s great defense. The whole first quarter of the game ended scoreless with countless four and out drives. Fortunately, the first drive of the second quarter led to a 49ers 52 yard field goal from the veteran David Akers. Before the end of the first half, David Akers kicked another field goal making it a whopping 6 to 0! The Redskins got the ball back with around two minutes left on the clock, and the first play in the drive resulted in a fumble recovered by the 49ers. The 49ers expel the field goal only game, and score on the first play with a thirty yard touchdown throw to Bruce Miller from Alex Smith. The Redskins come back before the end of the half and score a field goal. After the first half, the score was 13 to 3.
After a scoreless drive for each team in the second half, the 49ers got the ball. Once again David Akers comes out and scores a 42 yard field goal after being stopped by Washington’s defense. The third quarter ends with only that score, and the fourth begins. I wonder what happens next. David Akers scores another field goal making it 19 to 3. Akers had four field goals on the day! After another dry spell of scoring the redskins come back and score making it 19 to 11 after they make the two point conversion. San Francisco puts them out of their misery with two QB kneels to run out the clock.
The obvious pick up player is David Akers if he hasn’t already been picked up. Otherwise, Alex Smith is decent most of the time. The 49ers defense is a must have in most leagues right now. Also any wide receiver is nice back up. Not to mention Frank Gore, one of the best running backs in the league, even though the game was pretty dull for him. These players will be playing into the playoffs. So it is definitely worth a trade or two.
